There are a number of ways to go about starting the search for
Administrative Assistant Jobs
and I'll begin by discussing what I believe are the best ways to get your foot in the door.1) Cold Calling: Decide what type of company or organization you would feel passionate about working for, look them up online and browse open jobs or their human resources department page, and apply for an Administrative Assistant job! (Don't forget to upload a resume if the option is available. If you don't see links on their website for hiring then you'll need to contact the company via phone and ask how to apply and if there are any Administrative Assistant jobs available. While on their website you can use the opportunity to research the company's mission and their history. You can also check out the
Better Business Bureau's website
to see if there is any helpful information about the company there. Also, you can check out
CNN's 100 Best Companies to Work for
and click to see the full list to get some ideas. There's also a tab called 'NEAR YOU' in this article where you can select the state you wish to work in from the drop down menu and see if any of these 'best companies' show up. 2) Employment/Temp Agencies: Do a Google search of employment agencies and most likely you'll find a whole handful of companies in your area waiting for you to take advantage of their services. The agency that helped me land the medical administrative assistant job I have now was
Manpower Inc.
3) Local Classifieds and advertisements: If you get on the website of your local newspaper there will most likely be a section to browse the classifieds or job search section or if you look around while your at the grocery store, gas station, or other small business you may find some free small magazines or newspapers with jobs listed. A popular one I know of that can be found across the country is the
Employment Guide, which you can also browse through their website.
4) Job Search Engines: My personal opinion is that Monster.com is one of the best job search engines out there because not only is it a great site to search for open positions across the country, employers actively use the site to review resumes and search for the right employee for the job. And there are tons of tools on their site to look up a brief summary of information about the company you are applying to work for, get interview advice or professional help with writing your resume, and it even has a salary calculator based on job title and zip code so you can see how much you could expect to make in your area.

Yahoo! HotJobs - JobPostings is another great site with some helpful tools similar to Monster.com but it's not one that I am as familiar with. And just like Monster it looks as if employers use Yahoo! HotJobs also to post jobs and review resumes.
indeed.com
is a fairly new site that I've found which I think could promising. With Monster and Yahoo! HotJobs you can save profile information, upload a resume for any employer to see, and utilize professional tools and get some great information which I love. But indeed.com seems to be like the Google for job seekers. You simply type in the job title you are looking for, the location you want to work, and the indeed.com metasearch engine searches through all the newspapers, company profiles, and job boards it can to give you a great up to date listing of job openings in the area. It's not the easiest to use for actually applying or sending in resumes however so play around with the three and see what you find. It couldn't hurt to search for open Administrative Assistant Jobs in more ways than one! 5)
Social Networking
:Making friends is just one of the many benefits to networking online. For Virtual Assistants and all other Administrative Assistants and Administrative Professionals alike social networking sites can play a crucial role in getting a great job or staying connected with important business contacts in the industry you are assisting.
